Drivers using State Highway 60 between Motueka and Richmond need to be ready for night closures starting Sunday, 19 May to allow contractors to install road safety barriers on the Ruby Bay Bypass.
Overnight closures are planned from 19 May to 31 May, between 7 pm and 5:30 am, Sunday to Thursday. These works are weather-dependent and may be extended to 6 June if bad weather occurs.
Local road detours will be available, and there will be no night closures on Fridays or Saturdays.
The closures are needed to allow contractors to install flexible safety barriers between the Dominion and Harley Road intersections. Road crews will also carry out line marking.
State Highway 60 will be open in both directions during the day. However, traffic management will be in place, including lane shifts and some intermittent stop/go to enable sealing works. Drivers should plan for delays of around ten minutes during the day and when using the detour overnight.
NZTA/Waka Kotahi understands that highway closures can be inconvenient for road users. Every effort is being made to minimise the impact, with the work scheduled at night when traffic volumes are lower.
Drivers are urged to factor this work into their travel and allow extra time for their journeys. Road users must follow all traffic management and temporary speed limits at the works site. They are there to keep the public and road workers safe.
Overnight Works Schedule and Detour Routes:
- 19 May to 31 May. Sunday to Thursday, 7 pm – 5:30 am.
- No overnight closures on Fridays or Saturdays.
- A local road detour will be in place for all vehicles via Mapua Drive, Stafford Drive and Aporo Road. People travelling between Motueka and Richmond/Nelson must use this detour while the overnight closures are in place. On the detour route, traffic lights will be in place at a single-lane site at Ruby Bay Cliffs. The overnight detour will add another 10 mins to journey times.
- Residents needing to access Gardner Valley Road or Tasman View Road will need to use Dominion Road or Harley Road. Residents needing access to Stagecoach Road and Chaytor Road must use Seaton Valley Road.
