Essential maintenance work will be underway on State Highway 2 between Wellington and Petone next week, with the Ngauranga offramp to be closed for essential maintenance.

The Wellington Transport Alliance will be doing resurfacing work on the offramp on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday nights between 9 pm and 4 am.

This work is timed to happen at night when fewer vehicles are on the road to minimise disruption.

The offramp will be closed to all southbound traffic while this work is underway. This will affect drivers wanting to connect with State Highway 1 Ngauranga Gorge and Hutt Road—Kaiwharawhara.

For drivers travelling from Lower Hutt and needing to access State Highway 1 Ngauranga Gorge, a detour route is available. You will need to exit via the Aotea Quay offramp and use the Aotea Quay roundabout.

This detour will require extra time, and drivers must factor it into their travel plans.

NZTA/Waka Kotahi and the Wellington Transport Alliance thank drivers for their patience and cooperation while this road resurfacing work is completed. The Ngauranga offramp carries around 15 thousand vehicles daily, and its road surface must be properly maintained.

Work schedule and location

  • Sunday, 21 April to Tuesday, 23 April. 9 pm – 4 am.
