Update 1.45pm: State Highway 1 has reopened near Spring Creek, north of Blenheim, following a serious crash earlier today.
The incident, involving a truck and a car, occurred shortly before midday. Statehighway 1 was closed from approximately 12:30 pm to 1:40 pm.
While the highway is open in both directions, drivers may experience some delays as queued traffic clears.
NZTA/Waka Kotahi wants to thank drivers for their patience and cooperation as emergency services and contractors worked hard to clear the crash and reopen the highway.

Drivers travelling to and from Picton will need to detour this afternoon as emergency services attend a serious crash on State Highway 1 near Spring Creek.
The crash was reported around 11:45 this morning and occurred near the intersection of State Highway 1 and Vickerman Street.
State Highway 1 is now closed at this location. Drivers must avoid the area, follow the instructions of emergency services, and use an alternative route.
Detours are available for drivers travelling to and from Picton via State Highway 62 and State Highway 6. This will add to journey times, and road users should factor this into their travel plans.
