Great progress is being made in fixing a slump site on State Highway 2 on the Featherston side of the Remutaka Hill, with repairs due to be complete before Christmas.
There has been a lane closure and stop/go traffic management at the site after subsidence was detected in the eastbound lane earlier this year.
The lane has had to stay closed for safety reasons, and while road crews have worked hard to fix the damage.
Stage one of the project is now complete ahead of schedule, with 28 piles drilled and new columns placed to ensure the road and the hill face are stabilised. Workers are currently installing 12 anchors as part of the ongoing retaining wall construction.
The road will be re-surfaced once this work is finished, and the side median barrier will be re-installed. This is on track to be finished before the holiday break.
NZTA/Waka Kotahi and the Wellington Transport Alliance want to thank drivers for their patience and cooperation during this project. The lane closure and stop/go are essential to keeping work crews safe and to allow the project to be finished as quickly as possible.
