Partial closure of State Highway 58 near Pāuatahanui this weekend

A daytime closure is planned tomorrow (Saturday, 11 November) between 6 am and 6 pm for a short section of State Highway 58 eastbound and the State Highway 1 northbound onramp from State Highway 58.

This is for Te Aranui o Te Rangihaeata/Transmission Gully project works. Contractors will work on remedial pavement repairs and lay a small section of the final road surface. 

Detours will be sign-posted. 

Westbound traffic on State Highway 58 will not be affected, and State Highway 1 will operate normally. 

Short travel delays can be expected, and drivers should plan their trips accordingly.

Works schedule and detour map:

  • Saturday 11 November, 6 am to 6 pm (If postponed, work will happen the following weekend)
  • Location – SH58 eastbound lane, near Pāuatahanui roundabout, and the SH1 northbound onramp from SH58
  • Closures – The eastbound lane of SH58 will be closed from the Pāuatahanui roundabout to Te Aranui o Te Rangihaeata – Transmission Gully (SH1). The SH1 northbound onramp from SH58 will also be closed during this time.
  • Detour details:
    • Drivers needing to access State Highway 1 northbound or travelling east on State Highway 58 can divert through Whitby to the Waitangirua interchange. This detour takes around six minutes.  
    • Motorists westbound on State Highway 58, who want to head north on State Highway 1 can detour via State Highway 1 to the Waitangirua Interchange.
