A section of State Highway 2 / Hawke’s Bay Expressway will be closed for two nights later this month for work on Tutaekuri Waimate Stream Bridge.
The work will take place over two nights (Tuesday 24th and Wednesday 25th October) between 8pm and 4am the following day.
Hawke’s Bay Expressway, between Evenden Road and Links Road, will be closed during these hours.
Traffic will be detoured down Evendon Road and left onto Pakowhai Road before rejoining the expressway. The detour will also apply in reverse.
The Tutaekuri Waimate Stream is separate from the Tutaekuri River further north and that section of the expressway will remain open as per usual.
During the closures, contractors and bridge engineers will be working to strengthen protection from scouring.
The work relates back to damage caused during the cyclone and builds on the temporary repairs made after the cyclone.
The bridge remains structurally sound to drive on and is subject to a 50km/h temporary speed restriction to avoid any further deterioration.
The work later this month will further strengthen the banks of the stream under the bridge and Waka Kotahi thanks road users in advance for taking the detour during the closures.
