Drivers throughout Manawatū–Whanganui are being reminded to take extra care on state highways today as strong winds buffer the region.

The Metservice has a strong wind watch in place for the region.

State Highway 56 between Opiki and the turnoff with SH57 was closed for a short time earlier after a truck blew over on the road.

Manawatū-Whanganui Journey Manager Liesl Dawson has advised road users to plan their trip accordingly, drive to the conditions and be aware there maybe debris on roads.

“It’s really important people take care while driving around the region today, especially if you’re in a high-sided vehicle (for example a truck or caravan) or motorcycle.”
