Contractors working on night-time asphalt resurfacing work in Dannevirke will be on site for another few days.

The work, on SH2 in Dannevirke, is part of Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency’s long-term asset management plan and scheduled summer maintenance programme.

Contractors were hoping to finish tomorrow (14 February) but adverse weather has delayed the scheduled finish slightly.

Contractors expect to finish next Tuesday at 6am, taking into consideration a few more days of potential weather delays.

“When we plan a project, we always account for contingency, however sometimes, factors like these forecast rains, are beyond our control,” says Waka Kotahi Manawatū-Whanganui System Manager Rob Service.

While the work is underway, SH2 in Dannevirke is closed from 7am to 6am, excluding Saturday night, between Rawhiti Street and Swinburn Street.

There is a signposted detour in place for traffic:

  • Northbound traffic will detour via Rawhiti Street, Queen Street, Allan Street, Guy Street and Ruahine Street.
  • Southbound traffic will detour via Swinburn Street, Waterloo Street, Miller Street and Denmark Street.

“We had scheduled these works at night from 7pm to reduce the impact on the Dannevirke community as much as possible, however we acknowledge that unfortunately some disruption is unavoidable.

As we have mentioned, the works are weather dependent and may be postponed at short notice.

“Again, we really want to thank everyone for their patience and understanding while we complete this essential maintenance work,” says Mr Service.
