The Waka Kotahi summer state highway maintenance works are continuing in the top of the South Island, with State Highway 6, Rocks Road, to be resurfaced over the next two weeks.

From Sunday, 12 February, to Wednesday, 22 February, contractors will be resurfacing the route between Bisley Avenue and Muritai Street. The work will be carried out between 7 pm and 7 am, Sunday to Friday.

As part of this work, the following intersections will need to be temporarily closed to allow the resurfacing work to be done safely and efficiently:

  • Bisley Avenue
  • Bisley Walk
  • Muritai Street

Access to these streets will be available from their other entry points. Detours will also be in place.

For safety reasons, temporary speed restrictions and stop/go traffic control will be in place while this work is underway. Outside work hours, temporary speed restrictions will remain in place for the road works area.

Waka Kotahi understands the travel delays caused by projects like this can be frustrating for road users and residents. However, regular maintenance like this is needed to ensure our highways stay in a good state of repair. It is vital for high-traffic volume areas like State Highway 6 Rocks Road as major repairs take longer to complete and cause even more inconvenience.

These works have been timed to create the minimum amount of disruption. We want to thank all those affected for their patience and understanding while this project is underway.
