Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises a detour will be in place at the intersection of State Highway 3 and State Highway 30 in Te Kūiti on Thursday 6 October and Friday 7 October and either Monday 10 October or Tuesday 11 October.

The detour will be in place for the completion of the pedestrian upgrade to the entrance of Te Tokanganui-a-Noho marae, making it safer for pedestrians to cross State Highway 3 Awakino Road. It will only be in place when work is happening on site and it will be removed for the weekend and the road reopened.

To keep site staff and motorists safe, State Highway 3 Awakino Road will be closed from the intersection of State Highway 30 to the intersection with Waitete Road and Rora St. Traffic will be detoured northward along either State Highway 3 Carroll Street (if west of the railway lines) or Rora Street (if east of the railway lines) to the nearest rail crossing at Ward Street. Pedestrians and cyclists can cross the railway lines using the Te Ara Tika footbridge, which is about halfway between the two rail crossings.

The road will be reinstated with an asphalt surface around the new pedestrian refuges this week, followed by line marking next week.

Waka Kotahi thanks the Te Kūiti community for their patience over the past two months while this project has been underway.
