People across Manawatū-Whanganui are advised to take extra caution and expect delays on state highways today, as multiple roads have been reduced to one lane and a weather watch is in place.
Slips have occurred this morning on State Highway 4 at Kakatahi, and on State Highway 2 at Dannevirke. Crews have been working to clear slip material and there is stop/go traffic management in place at these sites.
A fallen tree on SH2 at Dannevirke closed the road this morning and this site has since been cleared.
Saddle Road between Ashhurst and Woodville is also down to one lane after a truck broke down this morning. Stop/go traffic management is in place and people are advised to expect long delays and to consider taking the alternative route over the Pahiatua Track if possible.
There is a severe thunderstorm watch in place for Taumarunui, Taranaki, Taihape, Whanganui and Manawatū. Driving conditions will be hazardous with surface flooding and poor visibility in heavy rain and hail, and streams and rivers may rise rapidly which can result in road closures.
Drivers are asked to comply with all temporary traffic management and speed limits in place to ensure their own safety and the safety of workers.
