Māori Fisheries Settlement—30th Anniversary
RINO TIRIKATENE (Labour—Te Tai Tonga): I seek leave to move a motion without notice and without debate on the 30th anniversary of the Māori Fisheries Settlement.
SPEAKER: Leave is sought for that purpose. Is there any objection? There appears to be none.
RINO TIRIKATENE: I move, That this House note the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Māori Fisheries Settlement at Parliament on 23 September 199; that the Sealord deal, as it was coined, paved the way for iwi and Māori involvement in this country’s modern commercial fisheries; and that it allowed Te Ohu Kaimoana to help iwi establish administrative and management structures that have shaped iwi organisations and leadership in this modern age.
Motion agreed to.
