All cleaning work at SkyCity will be stopped between 6 pm and 2am each day to ensure no work is done during the casino’s busiest period.

The big majority of cleaners at SkyCity are members of SEA-Unite and are in dispute with the company over the current pay offer.

SkyCity is the only major Hotel employer to not offer the Cleaners and Housekeepers a Living Wage. Their pay offer is also well below the current inflation rate.

Cleaners and Security guards at SkyCity were first deemed essential workers and then critical workers during the closedowns caused by the Pandemic. They kept the place safe and clean and in a position to be reopened for normal work. Their pay offer is between 4-5.6%.

Unite union has opened a Givealittle page ( https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/support-hospitality-workers-fighting-for-better ) for the cleaners to subsidise their wages as best we can in the hope of forcing the company to make a more realistic offer.

The public is being asked to donate and $8000 has been collected so far.
