Public consultation is open on an application to remove mooring structures in the Māui field that are no longer in use.
OMV New Zealand has applied for a marine consent to remove 10 ground wires and anchors that remained in the Māui field after the floating production storage and offtake vessel Whaakaropai was removed in 2006.
The Māui field is in the Taranaki Basin, approximately 50 km offshore west of Ōpunake.
The Minister for the Environment will appoint a board of inquiry to consider the notified marine consent application. The EPA provides administrative support to the board.
Submissions are open until 5.00 pm Tuesday 18 October 2022.
