After significant slip-clearing work overnight by contractors, State Highway 58 has been reopened to traffic this morning.

The road was closed overnight after a substantial slip on near the Haywards substation.

Contractors have removed a large amount of slip material to allow one of the two lanes westbound to reopen for traffic, Hutt Valley to Porirua.

Drivers are asked to follow the speed restrictions in place for the westbound lane at the slip site.

The slip site will continue to be monitored for further risk.

Waka Kotahi is thanking road users and residents for their patience and understanding during this work.

Recent wet weather has increased the risk of slips and treefalls on the region’s highway network. With more bad weather forecast in the coming week, this risk remains. Road users should drive to the conditions and exercise caution.
