Weather closing highways across Canterbury, West Coast and Marlborough

The fast changing blast of weather has closed several key routes around the South Island/Te Waipounamu today.

  • SH73 on the Canterbury side is going to be closed all afternoon and possibly overnight. (Next update 5 pm tonight)
  • There is an alternative route into Greymouth on the Jacksons/West Coast side of the hill via Moana, Stillwater and SH7.
  • Flooding has closed SH1 between Seddon and Blenheim and also SH63 at St Arnaud, the alternate route into Nelson from Blenheim.
