Update from the Ministry of Health

Today we are reporting 7,423 community cases and 411 current hospitalisations.

The 7-day rolling average of community case numbers today is 6,114.

We are sadly reporting the deaths of 19 people with COVID-19. All these deaths occurred in the past 7 days.

COVID-19 deaths

Today’s reported deaths take the total number of publicly reported deaths with COVID-19 to 1,522 and the 7-day rolling average of reported deaths is 13.

Of the people whose deaths we are reporting today:

  • 2 were from Northland
  • 3 were from the Auckland region
  • 3 were from Waikato
  • 1 was from Bay of Plenty
  • 1 was from Hawke’s Bay
  • 2 were from the Wellington region
  • 1 was from Nelson-Marlborough
  • 4 were from Canterbury
  • 2 were from Southern.

Two people were in their 50s; 3 were in their 60s; 1 was in their 70s; 6 were in their 80s; and 7 were aged over 90. Of these people, 11 were women and 8 were men.

This is a very sad time for whānau and friends and our thoughts and condolences are with them. Out of respect, we will be making no further comment on these deaths.
