Update from the Ministry of Health

Today we are reporting 7,829 community cases, 395 current hospitalisations, and 15 deaths.

The 7-day rolling average of community case numbers today is 5,808 — last Wednesday it was 4,873.

The higher number of cases in the last 2 days, compared to last week, is not unusual after a long weekend. It will take more time before we are able to determine if this is part of a trend.

COVID-19 deaths

Today we are sadly reporting the deaths of 15 people with COVID-19. All these deaths occurred within the past 9 days.

They take the total number of publicly reported deaths with COVID-19 to 1,503 and the 7-day rolling average of reported deaths is 12.

Of the people whose deaths we are reporting today; 3 were from the Auckland region, 1 was from Waikato, 1 was from Lakes, 2 were from Bay of Plenty, 2 were from Taranaki, 1 was from the Wellington region, 1 was from Nelson Marlborough, 1 was from Canterbury, 1 was from West Coast, and 2 were from the Southern region.

One person was in their 20s, 1 was in their 50s, 5 were in their 70s, 3 were in their 80s and 5 were over 90. Of these people, 6 were male and 9 were female.

This is a very sad time for whānau and friends and our thoughts and condolences are with them. Out of respect, we will be making no further comment on these deaths.
