Update from the Ministry of Health
Today we are reporting 8,028 community cases, 383 current hospitalisations, and 16 deaths.
The 7-day rolling average of community case numbers today is 5,480 — last Tuesday it was 4,878.
The increase in case numbers today is not unusual after a long weekend. It will take more time before we are able to determine if this is part of a trend.
COVID-19 deaths
Today we are sadly reporting the deaths of 16 people with COVID-19. All these deaths occurred within the past 7 days.
They take the total number of publicly reported deaths with COVID-19 to 1,488 and the 7-day rolling average of reported deaths is 12.
Of the people whose deaths we are reporting today; 4 were from the Auckland region, 2 were from Waikato, 2 were from Hawke’s Bay, 1 was from MidCentral, 2 were from Taranaki, 1 was from Wairarapa, 1 from Wellington, 2 were from Canterbury, and 1 was from the Southern region.
One person was aged between 10 and 19 years, 3 were in their 70s, 6 were in their 80s and 6 were over 90. Of these people, 11 were male and 5 were female.
This is a very sad time for whānau and friends and our thoughts and condolences are with them. Out of respect, we will be making no further comment on these deaths.

NZ COVID Tracer app evolving
The NZ COVID Tracer App is evolving to better reflect the current phase of the pandemic response.
The changes made to the app will better reflect its current use and contribution.
It will still work, but the registration feature will be deleted, along with any personal information shared by people when they first registered for the app. Contact tracers can still use other data sources in the app if needed.
