Flooding and slips on Manawatu state highways due to heavy rain

Heavy rain is affecting the state highway network in Manawatu and people are advised to take extra care on the roads and avoid travel where possible.

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises of the following slips and flooding in the region:

  • Flooding on SH1 at the Calico underbridge – a detour is in place
  • Large slip at Turakina on the passing lanes  – traffic management is in place
  • Numerous small slips on SH4 between Whanganui and Raetihi

People needing to travel are reminded to drive to the conditions, and watch out for unexpected road hazards like surface flooding in low-lying areas, potholes, slips or fallen trees. Heavy rain can also reduce visibility.
