Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises State Highway 28 (Whites Road), between State Highway 1 and State Highway 5, will be closed to through traffic from 11 January 2022 through to early March.
The closure will be in effect on weekdays between 6am – 6pm while contractors complete road rehabilitation work. This work will involve the removal of the existing road layers and replacing with new material. Work will be completed in two sections, the first immediately north of the Waihou Stream Bridge, and the second immediately south of the same bridge.
During the time the road is closed, access into SH28 will be for residents only. Residents will need to ensure they access SH28 from the correct end to access their property, as they will be unable to drive through the worksite.
All vehicles will be detoured via the SH1/SH5 roundabout at the southern end of Tirau.
The car park on State Highway 28 that provides access to the Te Waihou (Blue Springs) walk will be closed during the works, as contractors will be using this area to park machinery and stockpile materials. Access to the car park on Leslie Road will also be restricted, due to the resident access only requirement.
Waka Kotahi thanks motorists for their patience and understanding while this important work is undertaken to improve the state highway network.
