Waitematā Local Board will spend about two million dollars on improvements to paths and greenways in the local board area through its Local Board Transport Capital Fund.
The projects funded align with priorities identified in the board’s three-year Waitematā Local Board Plan [PDF].
As part of a wider upgrade for connections around MOTAT, the board will spend a further $30,000 towards the MOTAT Shared Path Project. The board had previously allocated $100,000 towards the project, totalling a $130,000 overall contribution.
$1,041,880 has been contributed towards improvements of shared pathways from Parnell Station through to the Auckland Domain, and $827,060 towards the completion of the Cox’s Bay to Wharf Road Greenway.
$117,465 has been reserved in the fund’s budget to support an application from the board to the Regional Streets for People Fund for the development of Rose Road Plaza in Ponsonby.
Waitematā Local Board transport-lead Graeme Gunthorp says the board looks forward to the projects getting underway.
“While the impact of COVID-19 affected the overall amount we had available to allocate, we’re pleased with the outcome and we know these improvements will make a positive difference for our communities,” he said.
Waitematā Local Board Chair Richard Northey agrees.
“The projects we’ve supported will provide strategic links allowing people to safely get around parts of our local board area, including by walking, bike or scooter,” he said.
