Kaipātiki Local Board has approved an extension of the alcohol ban around the Birkenhead Town Centre to 24-hours seven days a week (was from 10pm to 7am during daylight saving; 7pm to 7am outside of daylight saving).

The decision at its business meeting on 18 November follows concerns expressed by local businesses and residents around the alcohol-related antisocial behaviour and concerns for their personal safety. The change does not affect business liquor licenses.

The board also approved an extension (see blue area in map below) to the geographic area of the ban to include:

  • Kaimatara o Wai Manawa
  • Nell Fisher Reserve
  • Enterprise Street,
  • Trader Street
  • 213 – 269 Hinemoa Street
  • Birkenhead Primary carpark
  • 2 – 20 Colonial Road.
