Waka Kotahi is asking motorists in the eastern Bay of Plenty to take care on the roads, with heavy rain closing a section of State Highway 30 between Western Drain Road and State Highway 2 (Awakeri), and parts of SH2 Waimana Gorge down to one lane due to slips and fallen trees.

There is a detour in place for the SH30 closure, with eastbound traffic turning left onto Western Drain Road and then left again to rejoin SH30. Westbound traffic should turn right onto Western Drain Road and then right again to rejoin SH30.

Motorists are asked to drive carefully and allow additional time for the detour route.

Stop/Go traffic management is in use at locations on SH2 through the Waimana Gorge, with temporary speed limits in place.

People should remain alert for other unreported hazards and be mindful of contractors who could be out clearing hazards off the road. Please drive slowly through any work sites.

Waka Kotahi thanks motorists for their patience.

Plan ahead for a safe, enjoyable journey. Keep up to date with:
