Auckland Council’s World of Cultures returns in 2022 to celebrate the incredible and global sights, smells, tastes and sounds that make up our region’s rich diversity of cultures.
World of Cultures is our multicultural festival with events and activations running for 17 days from 18 March through to 3 April 2022 across the region and we are calling for expressions of interest from council staff.
“Our vision is for all Aucklanders to be proud of our multicultural city. We want the festival to enable Aucklanders to celebrate, share and experience the value and vibrancy of our multiculturalism,” says David Burt, Manager of Events for Auckland Council’s Events team.
If you have an idea that showcases and celebrates our unique diversity, we want to hear from you.
We are interested in activities in community hubs across the region that encourage deeper positive conversations where we can learn from each other and, in particular, celebrate some of our smaller cultural communities who are not often represented at larger festivals. Things like panel discussions, lessons, dance workshops, language classes, traditional craft making or cooking classes for traditional and fusion cuisines are all welcome.
Expressions are now open for council staff looking to plan or host activities as part of the festival. Email worldofcultures@aucklandcouncil.govt.nz to register your interest and if necessary, discuss funding options.
Expressions of interest applications for World of Cultures close on 21 November 2021.
Additionally, expressions of interest are also being taken from council staff for CultureFest, the one-day signature celebration event that concludes the World of Cultures Festival.
Last year’s CultureFest had over 65 cultures and ethnicities represented at the Mt Roskill War Memorial Park and featured multiple stages, hundreds of stalls, art activations and an annual football cup.
All performances, costumes, arts and crafts to workshops and food stalls are invited to apply to be part of this popular festival.
Expressions of interest are open for stallholder and performance groups. The event provides a wonderful opportunity for council units to connect with Aucklanders face to face.
