State Highway 43 at Hikumutu, near Paparoa Road, south west of Taumarunui is down to one lane due to two large slips.
Crews are on site working to clear debris from the road and Stop/Go traffic management is in place.
Motorists are advised to take extra care when travelling through the area and abide by the traffic management in place.
The slips occurred early this morning following heavy rain fall in the area.
Crews expect to be able to clear the site and reinstate the road to two lanes by the end of the week.
