In this weekend workshop, students will learn about mokuhanga and create their own postcard sized prints.

Mokuhanga has a long history in Japan and is best known for the Edo period ukiyo-e prints. The process uses water-based inks and is executed with a handheld baren instead of a printing press. Beginners will work with partly pre-cut plates.

With support from the tutor, you will carve a plate for printing.

Returning students can work with blank plates and will go through the process of establishing registration marks on the design and the block. Bring your own sketches or work with simple designs that are available.
