South Island state highways all bar one reopened at 2.20 pm Tuesday, icy conditions will continue overnight

Just one state highway remains closed in the South Island/ Te Wai Pounamu this afternoon.

Many other state highways and local roads remain icy. “Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises all road users to be on the lookout for slippery patches towards the evening and again overnight and tomorrow morning,” says Journey Manager Tresca Forrester. 

“Please watch your following distances, slow down, turn your lights on and expect ice on some bridge decks and areas that get no sunlight.   

“Before you head out in the morning, check for any overnight closures and advice at the Journey Planner website.
