Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is advising that Waihenga River bridge on State Highway 53 in Martinborough remains closed due to high river levels.

Contractors are onsite and will continue to monitor the river level to determine when it is safe for the road to be reopened.

Motorists are advised to take extra care on the roads in Martinborough and other parts of South Wairarapa, and to check for the latest road and weather conditions before travelling due to heavy rain.

Waka Kotahi is urging motorists to keep speeds down, maintain a safe following distance and look out for surface flooding and debris on the road.
