Seven bridges on the Opanuku Stream path in Henderson-Massey are set to have their surfaces replaced in the coming weeks, with the work set to take approximately 10 weeks.

The work will be done in sequence from the end of June 2021 (weather dependant) and diversions along the path will be put in place.

Seven bridges

The seven bridges line the Opanuku Stream path, starting with the bridge on Henderson Valley Green and ending with the Millbrook bridge in Sunnyvale.

Henderson-Massey Local Board Chair Vanessa Neeson says that the repairs are necessary to keep the surfaces safe.

“We know that this is a well-used network of bridges that both walkers and cyclists use. That in turn has led to the surfaces on the bridges becoming worn and potentially slippery.

“This work, although inconvenient for bridge users, is necessary and the outcome will be great for everyone.

“Doing the repairs in winter should also mean that there is as minimum disruption as possible where usage is lower and then they can be ready for summer.

“So I ask for patience and understanding while the work is carried out, it will be a good outcome for all users once completed.”

The sequence of works on the bridges beginning late June is below.

Signage detailing alternative routes will be displayed on the path.

  1. Henderson Valley Green
  2. Boarder Road Esplanade
  3. Opanuku Stream Reserve
  4. Plummer Domain
  5. Corban Estate – Twin Streams
  6. Corban Estate – Cranwell Esplanade
  7. Millbrook Bridge, Sunnyvale
