Professor Aman Oo

The School of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences has welcomed Professor Aman Oo as its new Head of School.

Professor Oo joins the Faculty of Design and Creative Technologies from Deakin University in Victoria, Australia, where he was Head of its School of Engineering.

He is excited to meet the team behind DCT’s largest school, and get to know the challenges and solutions our students and academics are working on.

“My long term goal for the school is championing our industry-ready graduates. I want every parent to have AUT at the top of their minds as great place for their daughters or sons to study, and I want every industry colleague to be eager to hire our graduates, and to be part of our industry partnerships.

“I want ECMS to be known for its research that makes an impact on both community and industry, and to be actively sought out for its expertise by policy makers and industry partners.”

Professor Oo’s expertise is renewable energy, and he has been involved in many projects in Australia, working with a range of different communities and both federal and state governments to develop strategies related to their renewable energy targets in response to climate change.

“The environment and government targets relating to climate change are obviously different in New Zealand, but I’m looking forward to championing AUT’s expertise and contributing to the conversation, and potentially building our expertise, for example around hydrogen.”
