Rotorua District / Eastern Bay of Plenty road works for week beginning 5 April
Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises chipsealing works will take place in multiple locations around the Rotorua and Ōpōtiki districts during the next week.
State Highway 35 – Omaio, Hariki, Maraenui
- Sites will operate under Stop/Go traffic management with a 30km/h temporary speed limit in place during the work, between the hours of 7am and 6pm.
State Highway 36 – Mangorewa Gorge to Ngongotahā
- Night works will be carried out between the hours of 7pm and 6am, on the nights of Tuesday 6 April, Wednesday 7 April and Thursday 8 April.
- The sites will operate under Stop/Go traffic management with a 30km/h temporary speed limit in place during the work.
Other ongoing and completed work:
State Highway 30 Horohoro and Ātiamuri
- Various road reconstruction works between the State Highway 1/SH30 intersection and Nicholson Road continue, with completion due by Friday 9 April (weather permitting).
- Shoulder widening works also continue on SH30 between Bryce Road and the State Highway 5/SH30 intersection, with completion due by Friday 9 April (weather permitting).
SH5 Tarukenga, between Dalbeth Road and Dansey Road
- Road reconstruction work continues along this corridor, with chipsealing due to be completed by Friday 9 April (weather permitting).
These works are part of the Waka Kotahi spring/summer road maintenance programme to repair and resurface state highways across the Bay of Plenty.
For a period of at least 24 hours after a site has been sealed, and before it is swept, it continues to operate under a reduced temporary speed limit while we allow vehicles to travel over the seal and help “bed in” the chip and to reduce the risk of chip damaging windscreens.
Following this, the site is swept, excess chip is removed and the temporary speed limit remains in place until line marking has been reinstated (within 48 hours of the site being sealed, weather dependent).
It is important motorists adhere to the relevant temporary speed limits during these works to avoid damage to their vehicles and ensure their safety and that of other road users and road workers.
