Work to begin on strengthening Omoko Bridge

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is advising motorists that there will be a lane closure on State Highway 2 at Waiōeka Gorge from Wednesday 14 April to allow for strengthening work on the Omoko Bridge.

Crews will begin work on strengthening the bridge to extend its life span, which is expected to take approximately four weeks.

During this time, one lane will be closed with 24/7 stop/go traffic management in place and a temporary speed restriction of 30km/h.

Motorists should expect delays of five to 10 minutes and are advised to plan ahead.

The bridge will be closed to some heavy vehicles (those with a “crawl central” crossing restriction).
