NorthTec’s annual graduation ceremony, which was scheduled for this Friday (5 March), has been postponed due to the rise in Covid-19 Alert Levels announced on Saturday. A new date has been set for Wednesday, 1 September.

More than 180 graduands, and their whānau and friends, were due to take part in the ceremony. However, due to the limit of 100 people allowed to attend gatherings under Alert Level 2, this has had to be postponed.

Toa Faneva, NorthTec Te Ahurei Chief Executive, said: “It is very disappointing that we have had to postpone graduation this year. We know our graduands look forward to the formal ceremony and the opportunity to celebrate their achievements with their whānau, friends and classmates.

“However, it is not possible to hold an event of this size under Alert Level 2, so the decision to postpone was made over the weekend. We have contacted our graduands to inform them of this and we are now notifying them of the new date.”

The graduation ceremony was due to take place at Forum North in Whangārei, with diploma, degree and graduate diploma students from the class of 2020 formally receiving their certificates. The September ceremony will be also be held at Forum North.
