Waka Kotahi is urging motorists to plan ahead with the Saddle Road to be closed to all westbound traffic (Woodville to Ashhurst) next week.

The road will be closed to westbound traffic from 9am to 2:30pm each day from Tuesday 9 February to Friday 12 February. The closures are necessary to allow contractors to undertake important preparation and maintenance work ahead of resurfacing work planned for March and April.

Please allow extra time for your journeys from Woodville to Ashhurst, and take extra care on the detour via the Pahiatua Track.

Drivers are also reminded to take care while driving through the Saddle Road worksites while travelling eastbound (Ashhurst to Woodville).

Next week’s daytime westbound closures will allow sections of the road to prepared for three weeks (16 nights) of resurfacing work to be undertaken in March and April. The following are the scheduled overnight closure dates during which Saddle Road will be closed in both directions each night from 6pm and reopen at 6am.

  • Sunday 14 – Friday 19 March (six nights)
  • Sunday 21 – Friday 27 March (six nights)
  • Tuesday 6 – Friday 9 April (four nights)

The full overnight closures provide a safer environment for workers, and will allow the road resurfacing and maintenance work to be completed with fewer daytime delays for road users. The detour route via the Pahiatua Track will remain available.

All roadworks are dependent on weather and other factors, and may be cancelled or postponed at late notice. Check the Waka Kotahi Facebook page for traffic updates https://www.facebook.com/nztacni/(external link)
