Anyone who is keen to study hospitality, tourism or business is invited to come to a special event in the Whangārei CBD.
A hospitality, tourism and business showcase takes place on Thursday, 4 February from 11am to 2pm. The venue is the Tai Tokerau Skills Centre+, on the ground floor of the NorthTec building at the corner of Bank Street and Cameron Street.
NorthTec staff from the programme areas will be on hand to talk to potential students about the courses on offer in 2021. Most courses get under way on or around 15 February, so people will still have time to enrol.
There will also be interactive activities such as pasta making and cup cake decorating, so the event will be family-friendly.
NorthTec staff will be joined by representatives from People Potential, International Travel College and professional careers advisors, to assist people looking to study or work out their next steps to employment.
Lisette Buckle, NorthTec Pathway Manager for hospitality, tourism and business, said: “Now is a great time to study hospitality, as feedback from the local industry is that there has been no let-up in their need for good quality employees with great customer service and culinary skills. Many venues are very busy at the moment, and business owners are unable to employ international staff due to the current border closures.
“The tourism industry is also focusing on providing the opportunity for locals and New Zealanders to experience what international travellers have done in the past.
“Business is a subject area that applies to many different industries. Visitors will have the opportunity to speak directly with staff about NorthTec’s new Māori Enterprise Graduate Diploma and a Major in our degree programme, bringing mātauranga Māori into the business context.”
