Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is advising that Waitaukakari Bridge on State Highway 35, south of Hicks Bay, will undergo essential resurfacing works from Tuesday 1 December which could cause delays of up to two hours.

Senior Network and Journey Manager Helen Harris says that due to the nature of the work, traffic will be held in both directions for up to two hours while the work is carried out from Tuesday 1 December to Tuesday 15 December between 6am and 6pm.

“Stop/go traffic management will be in place throughout this period, however we are allowing passage through the site each day between 12pm and 1.30pm.

“We’re strongly advising people to plan ahead and to avoid travel on this route during this time if possible.

“We recognise the inconvenience and disruption that this work may cause, but it’s important that we complete this essential work now to keep the road safe, and we thank people for their patience and understanding,” Ms Harris says.

The resurfacing work is dependent on weather and may be adjusted or postponed at short notice, so motorists should keep an eye on our Journey Planner website and social media for updates.

Plan ahead for a safe, enjoyable journey. Keep up to date with:
