In the 2020 election, there was a majority ‘yes’ vote in the End of Life Choice referendum. You may be wondering what this will mean and how you might exercise your choice.
It will be 12 months before the End of Life Choice Act comes into force, one year after the final results came through, so that will be 7 November 2021.
In the interim, it would be a good time to start an advance care plan – to explore what matters most to you, what you hope for and what worries you about death and dying and to talk to your health care team about what care and treatment options might be available to you.
Talk with your whānau about what you would want.
We will provide links to official government and health sector guidance and information about the End of Life Choices Act as they become available.
