Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises resurfacing night works will take place next week on State Highway 2 Takitimu Drive, northbound between Elizabeth Street and the SH2 Otumoetai off-ramp (Chapel Street).

To reduce the impact on motorists, the work will be completed overnight on Tuesday 27 October, Wednesday 28 October and Thursday 29 October, between 7pm and 5am the following day. Delays are expected and motorists are advised to take care, plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys.

Due to site width restrictions, lane closures and a detour will be in place over the three nights. Road users will be detoured via the SH2 overbridge towards Port Sulphur Point, onto Dive Crescent and Marsh Street, then Chapel Street and back onto SH2 Takitimu Drive to continue their journeys. A temporary 50km/h speed limit applies.

These works are part of the Waka Kotahi spring/summer road maintenance programme, which will see repairs and reseals on state highways across the Bay of Plenty to ensure the safety and resilience of the state highway network.

If you are travelling at these times please take extra care, reduce your speed and follow directions of traffic management staff and signage.

In the event of bad weather or other unforeseen circumstances, work will be postponed. Visit the interactive Waka Kotahi Journey Planner website (journeys.nzta.govt.nz(external link)) for the latest information on roadworks, traffic, road closures and detours to help plan your trip.

Waka Kotahi thanks motorists for their patience.

Plan ahead for a safe, enjoyable journey. Keep up to date with:
