NorthTec is launching a new city centre learning hub in Whangārei CBD, to be opened in early June.

NorthTec has signed a lease for the building at 38 Bank Street (the former Malletts shop). The three-storey unit will be used as a digital learning hub for students.

It will also be a centre for members of the public and potential students to make enquiries and find out about NorthTec programmes.

The building is currently being rebranded, repainted and refurbished to accommodate learning stations and IT requirements.

Acting Chief Executive, Wayne Jackson, said: “I’m very pleased that NorthTec has been able to secure a teaching and learning space in the CBD. This has been discussed for several years and is now coming to fruition.

“It will increase our capacity for delivering learning to the people of Northland Te Tai Tokerau, and is a handy location to access for many people. It will also enable people who are out and about in the city to drop in and make enquiries about our programmes.

“This plan has long had the support of many stakeholders including Whangārei District Council and NorthChamber, in that it will increase foot traffic and vibrancy by bringing our students into the CBD. It also provides a visible presence for NorthTec in the city centre.”

NorthTec has its main campus in Raumanga and a trades training centre, also in Whangārei. In addition it has learning centres in Dargaville, Kerikeri, Kaikohe and Kaitaia, and an international campus in Auckland.
