Auckland student, David Deng has been making the most of his time during the New Zealand lockdown with online study, cooking every day and talking to family and friends.

Where are you from and what programme are you studying?

I am from China and currently studying for a Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Management at the EIT Auckland Campus.

How are you coping with life in lockdown?

When I got the message about the lockdown, I felt quite sad. I was worried about not being able to go outside or to the EIT Auckland Campus. I thought that life would be boring staying at home every day. However, thanks to EIT online, we have information to read for our assignments and we have to make best use of our time in order to complete all the tasks.

How is studying online going for you?

By comparison, online learning is more flexible and safe at the moment. However, I look forward to going to back to the EIT Auckland Campus when we have permission.

Do you have a job and are you working during lockdown?

I had a part-time job offer but sadly was unable to sign the contract as New Zealand went into lockdown so I cannot start yet.

What are you doing in your spare time?

My most enjoyable time of the day is midday when I begin to cook lunch. This makes me feel really relaxed and happy.

How are you keeping in touch with family and friends and how often?

I talk to my family every day and catch up with my EIT friends when we talk about assignments.

What are you most looking forward to when the lockdown is over?

Being able to shop freely at the market and meet my old friends there. I would also like go to the beach!
