Te Kura is open and operational. Our kaimahi (staff) are working remotely. Our main priority is the wellbeing of the 12,000 full-time and dual ākonga (students) currently enrolled with us and their whānau (families), together with the wellbeing of the amazing kaimahi at Te Kura.
Support for our ākonga and dual partners
During term time, we are continuing to engage with our ākonga (dual and fulltime) through our online learning environment My Te Kura. Our kaiako (teachers) are available online and by phone. Term 2 begins on 15 April 2020.
Our Student and Whānau Support team are available for general enquiries and any technical issues with online learning, including over the term break; email hub@tekura.school.nz. Our Te Kura Relationship Coordinators continue to be available to support our dual providers.
While our home visits, face-to-face huinga ako (advisories) and other community events have been suspended indefinitely, we will hold our huinga ako online where possible.
We are continuing to support ākonga who need laptop and connectivity assistance but some ākonga might experience delays in receiving their device.
Our ability to provide paper-based work to a small number of ākonga who cannot work online has been impacted by printing and dispatch constraints during the lockdown and we are working on solutions on a case-by-case basis.

Support for our education community
The Ministry of Education’s expectation is that schools should provide their ākonga with distance learning opportunities to the greatest extent practicable. The Ministry has produced a Learning from home website that contains advice and resources to support learning at home from early learning to senior secondary year levels, which Te Kura has contributed to.
We have shared a range of online and booklet resources for ākonga at all levels to support learning at home during the lockdown period. These resources are available on Te Kura’s website and the Ministry’s Learning from home website.
The Ministry will be working over the next few weeks to provide next steps for distance learning options to support all ākonga. Te Kura is in discussions with the Ministry about further opening up our online resources for face-to-face schools to use with their ākonga during the lock-down period. We want to support schools with online learning and will keep you updated on progress.
Enrolments
We continue to accept enrolments for ākonga who meet the criteria, as set by the Ministry of Education in the Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu (Te Kura) Enrolment and Dual Tuition Policy
A new emergency enrolment gateway to Te Kura has been created for schools that have domestic ākonga currently unable to return to New Zealand.
