Auckland Council’s 21 local boards have shifted their work online, making essential business and community support a priority over the coming weeks.
Some of March’s formal monthly meetings were cancelled for public health and safety reasons, but the Government’s COVID-19 Response Bill – passed on Wednesday evening – means that boards will be able to resume their business meetings online and still meet legislative requirements.
Agendas and minutes will be posted on the council’s website.
Urgent decision-making processes have been in place in the interim and boards have been holding workshops via Skype to discuss key local issues.
Elected members are also continuing to engage with the wider public, community groups and local organisations through social media and other online platforms.
Council’s General Manager of Local Board Services, Louise Mason, says staff will continue to look at ways for the public to engage with and be aware of the work of local boards through other means, now that face-to-face meetings are not possible.
“We will provide as many opportunities for public input as we can during this challenging time. The key for our boards is to be transparent and responsive to our communities across the region.”
