Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises motorists to expect delays around Whakatane between Wednesday 25 March and Friday 3 of April during upcoming road resurfacing works on the state highway network.

Work will be undertaken at night to reduce the impact on motorists and will require traffic management during the day, that may include speed reductions, Stop/Go traffic control or detours.

Due to site constraints, we may need to close the road for short durations, while heavy machinery is moved within the worksite and the road sealing takes place. Works are weather dependent and may be rescheduled at short notice.

Detours will be sign posted and more information about specific works will be provided ahead of them getting underway. Motorists are encouraged to visit the Transport Agency’s interactive Journey Planner website (journeys.nzta.govt.nz(external link)) for up to date information about traffic, road works, delays and detours.

Work will begin at the State Highway 30 and State Highway 34 intersection at Military Road on the nights of Wednesday 25 March and Thursday 26 March. Stop/Go traffic management will be in place between 6pm and 6am.

There will be temporary speed limits of 30km/hour in place between 6pm and 6am, and 50km/hour outside these hours.

Motorists are asked to travel carefully through the work site to ensure the safety of themselves, other road users and road workers.

The Transport Agency thanks motorists for their patience.

Plan ahead for a safe, enjoyable journey this summer. Keep up to date with:
