SPEAKER’S STATEMENTS

Abortion Legislation Bill—Tabling of Amendments

SPEAKER: Members, the Abortion Legislation Bill was set down for committee stage following its second reading last night. I want to encourage members who have amendments to the bill that they wish to move at the committee stage to circulate them as early as possible. Doing so is an indication that the amendment is a serious one, and it gives other members time to read it and to consider their position. I will ask the presiding officers who chair the committee stage to consider giving preference in the allocation of calls to those members who have circulated amendments more than 24 hours before the commencement of the debate, which I understand could be as early as next Tuesday.
