We’ve waited 66 million years for this. Five triceratops specimens make their Southern Hemisphere debut.
March of the Triceratops opens at Tāmaki Paenga Hira Auckland War Memorial Museum this Saturday 24 October, bringing visitors face-to-face with five authentic Triceratops fossil skeletons from the only known herd ever discovered.
Developed by Naturalis Biodiversity Center in the Netherlands, the exhibition assembles more than 1,200 bones and fossil fragments uncovered together near Newcastle, Wyoming. Scientific analysis indicates the animals lived and died together, offering rare evidence that Triceratops may have displayed social or herd behaviour around 66–68 million years ago.
Alongside the fossils, visitors can encounter a life-sized female Triceratops model and animatronic calf, explore augmented reality, animations and soundscapes, and try interactive fossil-discovery experiences revealing how palaeontologists reconstruct the distant past.
March of the Triceratops comes exclusively to Auckland Museum from Saturday 24 October 2026 until Monday 26 April 2027.
Auckland Museum Membership provides unlimited free entry to March of the Triceratops, discounted event tickets and exclusive Member-only events. Find out more at: Auckland Museum Membership.
