A man has been arrested and charged following a firearms incident in Māngere last week.

Police were called to Harwell Place at 12.30pm on 10 October after reports of a disorder, during which a firearm was believed to have been discharged.

Detective Senior Sergeant Veronica McPherson, Counties Manukau CIB, says a short time later two people presented at a nearby medical centre with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds.

“An investigation was launched, and Police identified and arrested a suspect the next day.”

A 21-year-old male has been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and discharging a firearm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He will reappear in Manukau District Court on 15 January 2027.

One victim has since been discharged from hospital, while a second is continuing to receive treatment for the injuries they sustained.

“This violence has no place in our community, and Police are pleased we can hold this offender accountable for his actions.

“We want to thank members of the public who assisted with enquiries following our appeal for information,” Detective Senior Sergeant McPherson says.
