Error notification for Household Income and Living Survey (HILS) data for year ended June 2025

I am writing to our customers and stakeholders to advise you of errors impacting the following releases and subsequent customised data requests:
- Child poverty statistics: Year ended June 2025 and Child poverty statistics: Year ended June 2025 – technical appendix
- Household income and housing-cost statistics: Year ended June 2025
- LGBT+ population of Aotearoa New Zealand: Year ended June 2025.
The errors relate to how information about people’s highest qualifications was collected and processed and there are flow-on effects to household income-based statistics.
We are aware of the importance of robust indicators and apologise for this error.
Since identifying the errors, we have worked through the data to investigate the causes, assess their impact, implement necessary corrections, and quality assure the updated data.
