One person has been taken into custody following a reported firearms incident in Timaru on Saturday morning.
At around 11:20am, Police were called to Luxmore Road, Marchwiel following reports of a firearm being discharged towards a property.
Thankfully nobody was injured.
A number of enquiries were undertaken, and a vehicle of interest was located and stopped by armed Police on Evans Street at around 3:30pm on Saturday 8 August.
Five people in that vehicle were taken into custody, and later released without charge.
A second vehicle of interest was then stopped on Macdonald Street just after 4:30pm.
A 42-year-old man was taken into custody without further incident.
He is due to appear in the Timaru District Court on Monday 10 August charged with discharging a firearm to intimidate, unlawful possession of a firearm and possessing a knife in a public place.
Following his arrest, Police have executed several search warrants at Marchwiel addresses and are continuing to make enquiries into the matter.
Further arrests have not been ruled out.
This incident appears to be isolated and there is not believed to be any threat or risk to public safety.
