A sense of belonging isn’t just a nice feeling – it is foundational to our mental wellbeing. With loneliness on the rise, Mental Health Awareness Week 2026 (12–18 October) shines a light on how small, everyday moments of connection can build stronger, more inclusive communities across Aotearoa.
This year’s theme, Belonging Matters, is grounded in the whakataukī Ko au ko koe, ko koe ko au; I am you, and you are me – a reminder that when we care for and value one another, everyone thrives.
Whether at school, work, or in your neighbourhood, finding small, everyday moments of connection can make a world of difference. Make time for a kōrero, check in on a mate, or reach out to someone new.
Head to Mental Health Awareness Week for ideas, downloadable resources, and to discover how you can help create an Aotearoa where everyone feels like they belong.
